This tanto dagger is "mumei" unsigned by its maker and has an animal theme motif in terms of its kodogu fittings. The menuki handle grip ornaments are of a pair of fish on one side and an octopus on the reverse side and the tsuba sword guard is of Uma horses. This dagger is in fair polish with some minor kizu flaws (see the pictures provided) with a black metal habaki (open sun type design). It is approximately 24.0 cm in length and has a thicker kasane (blade thickness) in "yoroi doshi " style ( armor piercer) used in close quarter combat. The tsuka maki is a dark brown leather wrap on its handle which is in poor condition due to age and natural wear. The fuchi is of a copper metal design and the handle's end cap or kashira is made of black horn and is also cracked and somewhat damaged. The scabbard's end cap is of a flat metal design. This tanto does have a current and valid registration certificate, but no Provenance or authentication papers such as by NBTHK or from other such sword preservation institutions and societies. This blade can be delivered to Kadena, Foster, or Courtney base or surrounding areas upon request. I am also happy to explain the care and maintenance of this tanto in koshirae in terms of preservation , if you are a new to Nihonto. I can also provide you a free ' maintenance starter kit' . Please contact me if you are interested in viewing or acquiring this blade. Cheers, John
