Ashurst M&A Year In Review 2017
ANZCCJ and Ashurst extend an invitation to ANZCCJ Members to attend one of our signature events, 'Japan-Australia M&A Year in Review' to be held on 17 January 2018 at the Australian Embassy Tokyo.
In 2017, Japan and Australia celebrated the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Australia-Japan Commerce Agreement of 1957. The Commerce Agreement opened the way for the development of the strong bilateral economic relationship which continues to flourish today.
As Japan enjoys a period of financial stability, cross-border M&A continues to be an important plank in corporate Japan's strategies for growth. Australia remains a popular target destination for investment across an increasingly diverse range of industries including mining, oil & gas, renewable energy, insurance, financial services, housing and construction, technology and online platforms, medical and healthcare, human resources, and food and agriculture.
The execution of deals is evolving, with more Japanese companies looking to:
acquire shares in public companies;
secure IP rights through acquisitions;
use warranty and indemnity insurance and other transaction insurances to manage risk as sellers or buyers; and
have their legal advisers use cutting edge technologies such as AI to manage transaction workloads and costs.
Ashurst is a leading international law firm with a strong focus on outbound Japanese corporate transactions into Australia. In this year's Japan-Australia M&A Year in Review, Tracy Whiriskey (Partner, Tokyo), Natsuko Ogawa (Partner, Melbourne) and Arabella Dove (Counsel, Melbourne) will:
reflect on trends in Japanese investment into Australia during 2017, and key lessons learned from our deal experience; and
identify upcoming opportunities for Japanese investors in Australia and make some predictions on expectations for Japan Australia M&A activity in 2018.
Following the seminar, we would be delighted if you could join us for Shinnenkai drinks.
