Model: Hijet / V-S100P
Transmission: 5 speed manual, 2WD
JCI: Expires April 2023
I purchased this truck in May 2017 from a local Daihatsu dealership. It is very easy to drive here on the small streets of Okinawa. Kei cars/trucks (A plate) are more economical to own than regular cars since the insurance is cheaper, the annual road tax is only ¥3,000, and the 660cc 3-cylinder engine does not burn much fuel. Selling because I need more space in my garage.
Pros: I recently replaced the engine oil, oil filter, transmission fluid, air filter, brake fluid, tires, battery, and clutch. This truck is very easy to work on and has an English maintenance guide. It has a touch screen radio with Bluetooth, hands free calling, and Pioneer speakers. It has a cold air conditioner with a powerful fan to cool the cab quickly in the summer. It has a rubber bed liner and can haul up to 350kg (772lbs). It is over 25 years old, so it is eligible to send to the U.S. since it is exempted from EPA and DOT standards.
Cons: It is over 25 years old, so it lacks modern conveniences (no airbag, no ABS, no power steering, and it has a carburetor); however, the steering does not feel heavy while driving and the low technology makes it easier/cheaper to find and replace parts. The undercoating from the dealer is wearing off and there are some small surface rust spots underneath and on the latches for the removable truck bed sides.
